Our service is free to use because lenders and marketing partners pay us. Here is how that works, how it can affect what you see, and what it never changes.

We believe you should know how a free service earns money before you share your information with it. Many people find our site after searching for earnest personal loans, and this page explains our business model in plain terms: who pays us, what that payment can influence and where our role ends.

01

How we are compensated

Lenders and marketing partners in our network pay us, usually when we deliver a borrower's request to them or when a borrower takes a further step such as accepting an offer.

Payment amounts differ by partner, product, state and the kind of action involved. Because partners pay us, you pay nothing to use our request form, and we never charge a borrower a fee to submit a request or receive an offer. Any fees connected to a loan, such as an origination fee or late fee, are set by the lender and disclosed in the lender's agreement.

02

How placement works

Compensation, along with your request details and each lender's own criteria, can influence which lenders receive your request and the order in which offers or partners appear to you.

Lenders tell us which requests they want to see, based on factors such as loan amount, state, income and credit profile. When more than one lender may be able to respond, the order can reflect what partners pay us, how often they respond to similar requests and other business factors. Placement is not a ranking of which lender is best for you. Compare every offer by APR, total cost and terms before you choose.

03

What we do not see or control

We do not see or approve every offer a lender makes, we do not make credit decisions, and we do not set or change any lender's rates, fees, terms or approval rules.

Each lender evaluates your request under its own underwriting standards and presents its terms on its own website. Terms vary by lender and by state, and approval is never assured. Our network also does not include every lender or every personal loan product available in the market. You may find options elsewhere, including at a local bank or credit union, that are not shown through our service.

04

We are not a lender, and not Earnest

We are an independent connector, not a lender, and we are not affiliated with any lender or company named Earnest, including the well-known lender that uses that name.

People who type earnest personal loans into a search engine are sometimes looking for that lender specifically. If you have an account or application with a company named Earnest, contact that company directly; we cannot access or service it. To learn more about who we are, see about our service, and for the full sequence from request to funding, read how our service works.

05

Representative example and rates

Representative APRs from lenders in our network range from 5.99% to 35.99%, and some lenders in some states may charge more; your actual rate depends on your credit, income, amount, term and state.

Representative example: borrowing $2,000 over 12 months at 24.00% APR results in 12 monthly payments of $189.12, total repaid $2,269.44 and total interest $269.44. That is an estimate that assumes no origination fee; a fee would raise the APR and reduce the amount you receive. Loan amounts through our network run from $500 to $5,000, with terms typically from 6 to 60 months depending on the lender and amount. Our guide to personal loan rates explains what moves an APR.

06

State availability

Lenders in our network do not operate in every state, and the products, amounts, APRs and terms available to you depend on the laws of the state where you live.

Some states cap interest rates or fees on small loans, some require lenders to hold a state license, and some limit loan amounts or terms. As a result, a lender that responds to a request in one state may not respond to the same request in another. Residents of certain states may receive no offers at all. Anyone comparing earnest personal loans through our service should read the lender's state-specific disclosures before signing.

This disclosure may be updated as our partners or business model change. The version on this page is the one in effect.
